Park(ing) Day Philadelphia 2013 is tomorrow, Sept 20th!

park(ing) day philadelphiaExciting news, my friends: Philadelphia is being made into a Park(ing) lot tomorrow!

Park(ing) Day Philadelphia

The 6th annual Park(ing) Day Philadelphia kicks off tomorrow, Friday September 20th from 8 AM to 5 PM. Activists, artists, architects, citizens, businesses & organizations transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks. Although 170 square feet may not seem like a lot of room, many organizations’ creativity helps us to re-imagine our city with way more green space.

Park(ing) spaces will be spread across the city from Manayunk, Mount Airy, Northern Liberties, University City and more. Started in San Francisco in 2005, Park(ing) day raises public awareness of green and pedestrian-friendly spaces in urban environments.  Previous park(ing) day spots have varied from landscaped meeting areas, cafés, mini golf courses and inventive public art displays.

Want to check out the spaces? Visit the interactive Park(ing) day Map and create your own DIY sightseeing tour tomorrow. Connect on social Media with Facebook & Twitter @parkingdayphila.

Also, visit the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Pop-Up Garden at the end of the day for the official after party.
