Not ready to bite the bullet and purchase a bike yet? You can now give it a spin by renting one in Fairmount Park!

Today, Mayor Nutter, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy welcomed Wheel Fun Rentals to Fairmount Park at 3 locations: Lloyd Hall (Boathouse Row), Love Park & Bathey House/Trolley Car Cafe in East Falls.

These bike rentals won’t be strictly benefiting a third-party business: Philly will get its fair share from the deal. Part of the proceeds (anticipated $50K) from the bike rentals will go back into Philly Parks. These funds will be used for park & trail renovations along the Schuylkill River trail, Kelly drive & other various Philly Parks & Rec/Fairmount Park projects.  Plus, Wheel Fun Rentals will employ teens from the Neighborhood Bike Works program, a local nonprofit helping inner-city youths through opportunities provided by bicycling.

Encouraging biking isn’t new to Philly – 350+ new bike racks and bike lanes have been installed over the past few years.

Wheel Fun Rentals will be open 7 days a week (June – Labor Day) from 9 AM – sunset; and weekends/holidays in the fall from 10 AM – sunset. You can try all sorts of wheel actions; anywhere from Cruiser Bikes starting from $10/hour, $25/half day or $32/full day up to a double surrey for $30/hour.
