PHS Fall Garden Festival: Seasonal Feast for the Senses

Got a green thumb? Gardeners of all levels should soak up the plants, gardening tips and all things green at the Free Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Fall Gardening Festival on Saturday, Sept. 11, 11 AM-4 PM at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

The free festival will showcase PHS’s special programs for homeowners and gardeners, as well as food, live music, plant sales and demonstration.

Highlights of the day include:

  • At the PHS Green Stop, visitors can learn about green living from PHS, PECO, Neighborhood Gardens Association and other organizations, and recycle used nursery containers and horticultural plastics.
  • Want to become a PHS member? Anyone who becomes a member at the festival will receive a free gift, membership discounts, & tickets to the 2011 Flower Show
  • Educational exhibitors including the Pennsylvania Resources Council, Delaware Valley Earth Force, Mullock Compost and the Philadelphia Water Department.
  • PHS Gold Medal award-winning plants will be displayed & for sale.
  • A sneak preview of the upcoming 2011 Philadelphia International Flower Show, “Springtime in Paris,” at the Gardeners Studio, demonstrations & lectures on autumn tree care, using herbs, and bringing houseplants indoors.
  • Live auction at 1:30 p.m including indoor/outdoor décor from the Flower Show, an Eco Blower and mulcher, compost services, etc.  Proceeds benefits greening programs
  • A Marketplace of gardening items and a Farmers Market operated by Greensgrow will offer fresh, local produce and plants
  • Live & acoustic eclectic music

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society motivates people to improve the quality of life & create a sense of community through horticulture. PHS produces the Philadelphia International Flower Show, operates the region’s exceptional Meadowbrook Farm garden center and design showcase, and reaches out nationwide to create sustainable green communities.
