Welcome to April and (hopefully) the actual beginning of spring. We’ve got loads of great events on our calendar but picked the best to keep you busy this month even on those April shower days!

8 Can’t-Miss Sustainability Events in April

1. Cherry blossom festival

Experience a Japanese style celebration of spring right in Philadelphia with activities like sushi making classes, cultural demonstrations, and storytelling. Events begin on cumulate on Sakura Sunday with Japanese music, crafts, performances, and food under blooming cherry trees in Fairmount Park.

2. Philly Spring Clean Up

This year is the 10th annual Philly Spring Clean Up. Last year volunteers removed over 600,000 pounds of trash from Philadelphia streets. Join your neighbors, engage with the community, and keep the city we love beautiful.

3. Toad Night

Join Philadelphia Zoo’s Amphibian Conservation Specialist, Dr. Carlos Martínez Rivera for this educational family event. Dr. Martínez will lead a hike and conversation about local toad and frog species, area natural history and conservation efforts.

4. The Buzz: A Craft Coffee, Beer & Spirits Festival

This event lets you sample the area’s finest tea, coffee, cocktails, and beer. What could be better than celebrating local brews of all sorts while enjoying vegan snacks and the city skyline from the Free Library of Philadelphia’s roof deck?

5. March for Science in Philadelphia

You now don’t even have to leave Philadelphia to join marches all over the world to advocate for and support science. After the march ends at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing entertainment will commence including music and special guest speakers.

6. Composting 101

Want to learn more about best practices in composting or how to start composting your kitchen and garden scraps? Greensgrow presents a workshop on composting in Philadelphia, exploring different methods, and ways to maximize benefits.

7. Philadelphia Science Festival

Calling all scientists, science lovers, future scientists, and proud geeks, you definitely do not want to miss the Philadelphia Science Festival. The week will be packed full of fun events celebrating scientific inquiry in its many forms and cumulates in a free Science Carnival at Penn’s Landing. Here are some of our other favorite events going on in the week that you don’t want to miss, Science in the Park, Science on tap untapped: scientific malarkey, and Be a Scientist Day.

8. Spring Native Plant Sale

Native plants make for a beautiful garden and one that provides maximum benefits for local biodiversity by providing habitat for birds and pollinators. There’s no better time to get started or expand, your beautiful garden than while the Schuylkill Center is having its annual plant sale.
