The latest in sustainability news:

3rd graders helped design a new Kensington green space. A collaboration between the Trust for Public Land and Webster Elementary School empowered students to learn about green infrastructure, the water cycle, site analysis, and more by participating in designing a new community schoolyard. The project will be constructed with the help of the Philadelphia School District and the City of Philadelphia. 

The 2025 State of the Basin report indicates a generally healthy Delaware River Basin. The report covers 36 indicators across categories such as water quality, climate change, living resources, water quantity, and watersheds and landscapes. The report shows high ratings for most of the indicators, but also highlights some areas of concern that could help inform future stewardship efforts.

Another industrial fire caused local air quality concerns, this time in Camden & South Philly. Flames at the EMR scrap metal recycling facility in Camden ignited just days after a different fire at SPS Technologies in Abington. Levels of fine particulate matter spiked in the surrounding area while some Camden residents evacuated. Monitoring efforts along the nearby South Philly waterfront did not find air quality to be a threat to residents across the river. WHYY News Climate Desk. 

This local organization advocates for improved bike infrastructure throughout the city. Philly Bike Action organizes campaigns, events, and action items with the goal of making cycling a safer and more accessible option for Philadelphians. On Saturday, March 1st from 10am-12pm, they will be hosting a clean-up event for the Grays Ferry Bridge bike lanes.
