Obama Visits Bucks County to Talk Energy

Obama swung by a wind-turbine Plant to talk about Energy, reducing US oil imports and getting clean Energy on Wednesday afternoon. This coincides with Obama's announcement for re-election. Luckily, Philadelphia is producing a whole-lot of green-energy jobs as part of Obama's energy initiatives. But as we saw from his State of the Union Address, he needs to step up his actions and talk less about the changes. "These are not your father's windmills," Obama told (find out more, after the jump!)

Fish: What You Need To Know Now

Fish is one of the healthiest food choices you can make. It’s low in calories and the “bad” type of fat, has antioxidants and nutritionists call it a brain food that’ll help keep you sharp. Plus, it’s easy to prepare and there’s no shortage of varieties. Is this wonder food too good to be true? Not necessarily, but just like there are precautions when enjoying meat there are things consumers need to be mindful of before feasting on fish. Read on!

Glaxo Move – Green or Not (.com)?

GlaxoSmithKline announced last week that it's moving to a LEED-certified building in the Navy Yard from its current Center City location. According to the Philly.com story, "GSK says it will sign 15 1/2-year lease for a four-story, 205,000-square-foot facility being developed by Liberty Property Trust and Synterra Partners". Glaxo would move all its employees either at One & Three Franklin Plaza Center city locations to south Philly in late 2012/early 2013. I definitely commend any company who wants to become green and up its efficiency. The eco-friendly design should (find out more, after the jump!)

Lion Meat Controversy in Arizona, Philly & the World

Our friends at Phillyist highlighted a Grub Street post about a controversy over lion tacos in Arizona and a similar proposition recently in Philly. This scandal of putting lion on the menu ended a chef's meeting his end (pun intended) at South Philly Tap Room. Somehow, I missed this controversy back in September 2008, but started researching how this debacle even happened. Right around the World Cup this year, an Arizona Chef attempted selling lion burgers from a "free-range farm" in Illinois. However, CNN Money & other big wigs decided to investigate (find out more, after the jump!)

Vick VS. PETA: PETA Names Linc as #1 Veggie-Friendly, Ironic?

Citizens Bank Park has topped PETA's Most Vegetarian Friendly MLB Stadium in 2009 & 2010, even calling CBP an "undisputed dynasty" in the rankings. Now, Philadelphia Eagle's own Lincoln Financial Field has been named PETA's #1 Vegetarian-Friendly NFL Stadium. According to the PETA article, "Flying high at number one is the Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field, where protein-packed mock-steak sandwiches, faux-chicken sandwiches, veggie dogs, and veggie burgers are coming off the grill faster than DeSean Jackson in the open field". Opening in August 2003 & seating 68,532, the Linc has quadrupled their number of concession areas compared to the Eagles' former home of Veteran's Stadium. PETA released the news last week, but there is one very ironical part of this: Michael Vick's current position as dominating QB for the Eagles. 47 Pit Bulls were seized from Bad Newz Kennels in 2007, leading to Vick's prison sentence. The LA Times

Guest Blogger Entry: The Wind Spin Primer

Clayton Bedwell is our expert on Wind, Solar & Alternate Energy. Check out his latest post: With domestic wind energy development down 71% percent this year, it seems like an odd time for the oil industry to kick the anti-wind spin machine into high gear, but that's exactly what's happening. Recently, The Wall Street Journal ran "Wind Power Won't Cool the Planet" where Robert Bryce argues that the technical accommodations necessary to integrate the variable generation of wind energy into the grid ultimately result in little to no carbon reductions versus the traditional power plants they are replacing. Considering the complexities of electricity generation and distribution in addition to the the havoc that variable generation technologies (wind and solar) can have on America's aging grid system (designed for the constant generation of traditional power sources) Bryce introduces an interesting and unintuitive thesis only to sink the article with the choice of some of his source and how he interpreted others. Greentech Media countered "Wind Power Won't Cool the Planet" with
