May is officially Bike month, and we're ready to for some two-wheeled action!  Philadelphia's the #1 bike-commuting city and the bicycling rates keep rising, so we're in the PERFECT city to celebrate! The Philadelphia Bike Coalition has tons up its sleeve... How can you celebrate this joyous occasion?

Good news - the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia revealed in their Cyclegram that bikers in Philadelphia have gone up again in 2011, maintaining our title as the country's highest bike-commuting city. How do the stats compare in 2011?

Bike Philly 2011, aka YOUR chance to ride car-free on Philly Streets (ahem minus Carrie Denny's SUV...), is brought to you by the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. You can bike car-free for 10 or 20 mile loops, or bike a 35-mile loop (which includes some shared roads.) Routes go through Philly landmarks including Chinatown, Olde City, by the Ben Franklin bridge, the Zoo and other awesome scenes. Woohoo! As we mentioned,the North-South Bike lanes are going in on 10th & 13th Streets in Philly from South to Market. Then, a bill was floating around City Council that they'd had to approve bike lanes - which would likely delay more lanes being put in. Good news! Hipsters and athletes rejoice in harmony! What a difference a decade makes... Philadelphia went from America's Fattest City to the #1 Bike commuting! The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia’s report finds that Philadelphia has twice (per capita) as many bicycle commuters as any other big city in the US, increasing
