As we continue Shark Week, shark preservation highlights another problem we're facing in the ocean: Overfishing. 70% of the world's fisheries are fully or overly exploited, depleted or in a state of collapse. Shark enthusiasts are rejoicing this week as Discovery Channel's "Shark Week" returns to the small screen. Personally, I started off watching the highly-anticipated predatory series Sunday evening with some fine (organic boxed) wine, delicious cheese and a good friend. Although the media portrays sharks as a threat, there's only an average of 5-10 human fatalities per year due to shark attacks... You're more likely to be killed hornets, wasps, bees or dogs. Yet an estimated 73 million sharks are killed yearly - from habitat loss, pollution, overfishing, and most of all, shark finning. (For more on shark conservation and what YOU can do, click through!)

Friday was the 1st International Global Tiger Day initiated by Vietnam to raise awareness of protecting Tigers. There's less than 3500 tigers in the wild - making them one of the most critically endangered animals. One of the main problems is (find out more, after the jump!)

Whales, sharks, seals, schools of fishes, killer whales, penguins. The Mann Center certainly delivered incredible visuals of all of these aquatic creatures (plus many more!) combined with amazing sounds from the Russian National Orchestra during last night's Blue Planet Live. Starting off Blue Planet Live with a video of the biggest creature to ever roam the earth (including dinosaurs), the Blue Whale is fascinating at the least, as you can see from this video: (catch the video and much more after the jump!)
