Recycle Your Old Sneakers: WCI Wednesday update
Last year, we visited where you can recycle your old sneakers, which included local spots like Philadelphia Runner. We also addressed how to recycle your old flip-flops, since we all know how many we can collect for a little post-run relaxation. So what are you to do in 2013? Good news for you runners – there’s more opportunities this year to give your old kicks a new life!
Where to recycle your old sneakers in Philly
Back on My Feet Philadelphia announced a new partnership with ShoeBox Recycling to reuse running shoes to empower homeless individuals. You can start your own shoe drive with BoMF or email Cathryn to donate your own pair of shoes.
Other Philly spots to drop off sneakers:
- Philadelphia Runner accepts used shoes at all 3 locations. There’s a drop off bin & no requirements (according to the nice gentleman on the phone).
- Nike’s Reuse-a-Shoe program accepts drop-offs at Philly’s Nike Factory Franklin Mills Storelocation (1455 Franklin Mills Cir., Sp 537A, Philadelphia, PA 19154)
- 2 upcoming race opportunities: the AT&T Back on My Feet 5-Miler on March 30th, and the classic Broad Street Run on May 5, 2013 if you were lucky enough to snag a spot in the lottery. (Let’s hope the Broad Street Run takes some of my suggestions to be greener in 2013, since recycling our shoes is only the first step…)
Readers, are you aware of any other sneaker drives? Are you going to host a sneaker drive? Let us know in the comments!
