This nominee is broadening the reach of sustainability education and/or deepening the knowledge within the community (to traditional and non-traditional students).

Rob Fleming
As founding Director and professor in the MS in Sustainable Design Program at Jefferson (formerly Philadelphia University a couple of weeks ago…), Rob Fleming has graduated an impressive group of students. They’ve gone on to create nonprofits like RAIR and Philly Earth, for-profit start-ups such as MilkCrate, served in the public sector on the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, and have worked in companies including In-posse Engineers, Re:Vision Architects, Magrann, B Lab and more.
Rob uses education to work with young people from all over the world and from all walks of life to help them become the change agents that the planet needs. Also, he’s an architect, LEED accredited professional, founding board member of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council, a board member for Community Ventures, and a Sustainability Fellow at Re:Vision architect.
Rob’s passion for education is evident – just take it from him:

Lucas Hamilton
Lucas Hamilton promotes sustainability in the Greater Philadelphia region with the goal of reducing buildings’ impact on carbon dioxide emissions so everyone can see the role they play in the sustainable building.
Lucas is a mentor to YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School students and educates former out-of-school young adults about the process for completing sustainable renovations and making a positive impact in their local community. For each of the YouthBuild Philadelphia’s sustainable renovation projects, he visits the project site pre-renovation and holds design charrettes with students as well as full presentations and workshops about the building materials selection process. This has resulted in the sustainable renovation of three homes in Philadelphia.
Corrin Omowunmi
Corrin Omowunmi was the Student Conservation Association (SCA) Community Program leader until April 2017 and currently works for the University of Delaware. Her role helped connect students of color and low-income families to the conservation world with hand-on service at the local national parks and communities. Launching the SCA community program in 2009 as a summer program, it has grown to serve youth in Camden and the Greater Philadelphia area.
Corrin was the tireless Student Conservation Association Community Program leader for recruiting and employing high school youth to gain meaningful work experiences with conservation based agencies throughout Philadelphia. In the past year, she was successful at hiring 80 high school youth that worked on garden building, trail maintenance, small construction projects, invasive plant removal, tree and flower planting projects and ??????????natural resource careers.
As Corrin said, “I want to expose young people to new career options, care about their community and most of all inspire them to be the next generation of people who care about our environment and helping others.“
Ellen Schultz
For almost the past 30 years, Ellen Schultz has found fun and creative ways to teach young adults about the built and natural environment.
Ellen Schultz is the Associate Director of Education at the Fairmount Water Works/Philadelphia Water Department’s Education Center, where she led a three-year Curriculum Development project to integrate watershed education into Philadelphia schools. She worked with classrooms to write and pilot engaging, locally based, experiential, and cross-disciplinary learning experiences for 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
Ellen received the Education for Sustainability Award at the GreenFutures Reception in June 2016 and has helped support the school district’s Green Futures Plan.
