Where To Donate Old Furniture – WCI Weds
Since I’m still in college, I’ve moved around a lot over the last couple of years. Every move, I end up with unwanted or disproportional furniture.
Being new to the Philly area, I had no idea where to donate gently used furniture.
I’ve since learned from experience that places like Goodwill or the Salvation Army aren’t very user friendly. They tend to be pickier about items they accept and it’s difficult to schedule pickup times (especially without a car).
Whether you’re looking to buy or donate old furniture, we saved you some of my previous stress and found a few places for you on Where Can I Wednesday. Plus, they all benefit great causes.
Here’s where to donate furniture in Philly:
Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles

For the past 20 years Uhuru Furniture has collected furniture donations from community supporters. This charity thrift store gives 100% of its profits to the African People’s Education and Defense Fund (APEDF).
The APEDF hopes to create programs to defend the civil rights of the African community and to address the inequalities of African education, health, health care, and economic development.
Uhuru Furniture represents the sector of Philadelphia that wants to see genuine change and support sustainable economic development by and for the African community.
Supporters contribute to Uhuru Furniture’s cause by donating, volunteering, and shopping.
Habitat for Humanity RESTORE

Habitat for Humanity has a store where they accept donations of home furnishings, furniture, and building supplies to later resell at a fraction of the original cost. All profit goes directly back unto Habitat Philadelphia’s Homebuilding and Weatherization & Home Repair Programs.

Philly AIDS Thrift

Philadelphia AIDS Thrift is a non-profit business that sells donated items and then distributes the proceeds to local organizations involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Their current main beneficiary is the AIDS Fund.
Philly AIDS Thrift provides free store vouchers to Philly area HIV/AIDS service providers for distribution to clients in need of clothing assistance and household necessities.
If you wish to donate in memory of someone, Philly AIDS Thrift is more than willing to accommodate. Simply write the name of the person you wish to honor in the appropriate text box when donating and a card will be sent acknowledging your donation to a surviving relative, partner, or friend.
**Bonus: All of these programs are tax deductible and have free pickups.
