Camden Gets FREE Electric Car Charging Stations
Who knocks Jersey for the spray tans, big hair and GTLs?! There are brand new GREEN bragging rights across the river to one-up us.
Camden County installed 7 new FREE electric car stations including locations at the Cooper River Boathouse, county libraries and colleges. According to county sustainability director Chris Waldron,
“These vehicles are only going to become more popular. The costs are coming down. They’re manufactured in America. There’s a huge cost savings component to it as well. So we see a lot of great reasons why people are investing in them. And we want to meet that need.”
Camden County paid half of the costs at a cool $60,000 and the rest of the funds came from a federal grant. The stations will be free for one year.
100,000 plug-in electric cars have been sold in the US so far, with 20 sold in Cherry Hill this year. Vehicles like the Chevy Volt can get 540 miles to the gallon. Cars cost anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000 for the Tesla S.
