Play brings current climate change conversations to ‘Galilee’ at Azuka Theatre
Galilee performances close this Sunday
Philadelphia’s Azuka Theatre is gearing up to conclude its 2022-2023 season with a show about climate change.
Galilee is set in a small town near the Great Barrier Reef. The story focuses on the significant impact of rising sea temperatures and the thriving mining industry on the local community along with a young marine biology student trying to rescue her family’s struggling business. Like many low-lying nations, the inhabitants of Galilee have to choose to either confront the challenges head-on, seek refuge elsewhere, or adapt to the ever-changing environment.
The play is written by Christine Evans and skillfully directed by Azuka’s Co-Artistic Director, Rebecca May Flowers. The show concludes on May 21, 2023 at the Proscenium Theatre at The Drake (302 S. Hicks Street) with a pay-what-you-decide model. Get tickets at azukatheatre.org.
