Spring has Sprung Friday Roundup… Philly’s SO Hot Right Now!
Spring has Sprung, and Philly’s exploding with activity both indoors & out. I can’t wait to play in the warm weather this weekend! Here’s a roundup of some events & recent green news:
- Have you been Loving Your Parks this Week?
- Today was Bike To Work Day, and the Philadelphia Bicycle Coalition has a recap. Mayor Nutter loves the bike lanes AND doesn’t want cars in them, parked or driving. Ahh-MEN!
- Today is also Endangered Species Day, which started in 2006 by the US Senate to raise awareness to conserve endangered plants & animals worldwide. MNN mentions how the day stirs optimism yet the outlook is bleak for some of these beautiful creatures.
- The Philly Swap was Saturday May 12 and featured recycling & “swapping” clothes, materials & more!
- Friends of Pennypack Park are hosting a Recycling Event tomorrow (Saturday May 19) from 9 AM – Noon. They’ll collect clothing, paper/cardboard, aluminum, batteries, cell phones, ink cartridges & more! See a complete list on their site.
- Rittenhouse Row Festival Spring Festival is 12 – 5 PM tomorrow (Sat 5/19) and will include an eco-friendly Arcadia Sale! (and much much more.)
- The Philadelphia Streets Dept Household Hazardous Waste Collection events is tomorrow (sense a pattern?!) at 1st District Highway Yard, 4800 Parkside Avenue. This is your chance to get rid of paints, fertilizers, cleaning solvents (bathroom/kitchen/etc), automotive products like motor oil & antifreeze, flammable materials like gasoline & kerosene, and other deadly stuff from your house.
- Curbed Philly had a map of “Secret” Philly Gardens
- The Pittsburgh Tote Bag Project had some kind words on their post about us – check out their site!
What are YOU doing this weekend, Philly?
