SEPTA restores service, rally for clean air, secondhand clothes, & more

SEPTA uses capital funds to avoid cuts for another two years. Following court orders to reinstate service, SEPTA asked PennDOT to move funds from their maintenance budget over to operations. The capital budget – which is meant for repairs and infrastructure improvements – will fund SEPTA operations for two years. According to a statement on SEPTA’s website, there is no plan to replace lost capital funds.
Clean Air Council Rallies at LOVE Park for EPA repeal. On Tuesday afternoon, the Clean Air Council hosted a rally against EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s repeal of the Endangerment Finding. The Endangerment Finding requires the EPA to protect the public from pollution causing the climate crisis; without it, the Clean Air Council is raising the alarm on an impending public health crisis. An analysis just released by the Environmental Defense Fund is similarly warning that proposed federal budget cuts will not only impact air quality, but drinking water as well.
Secondhand store combating clothing insecurity opens new location. The Wardrobe, a local clothing upcycling business, is opening a new location in Norristown this week. The local nonprofit provides free clothes to people facing clothing insecurity as a barrier to employment and independence.
Philadelphia Orchard Project is looking for a new executive director. The Philadelphia Orchard Project, a leading urban agriculture organization with orchards throughout the city, is on the hunt for a new executive director to take the helm. The nonprofit combines active orchard management with hands-on education across Philadelphia neighborhoods.
