Plastic Bag Legislation is being Introduced TODAY!!!
As some of you may remember, we started a “Ban the Bag day” in July 2012 to bring awareness to plastic bag legislation in Philadelphia. We synced up with Logan Welde of the Clean Air Council and other environmental organizations to encourage legislation to be introduced.
Two and a half years later, our dreams have come true!
Councilman Mark Squilla will be introducing the plastic bag legislation today in City Council. The legislation will implement a $.05 fee on each plastic bag used at checkout – so no more free plastic handouts. (Important point for you bag lovers: they’re not free now. Retailers integrate the cost into your overall bill.)
