Sustainable Business Network welcomes new executive director. Zoraida Cordero is the new Executive Director at the Sustainable Business Network, whose mission is to help Philadelphia businesses become more sustainable and have a greater positive impact on the environment. Cordero previously worked as a macro social worker and civic educator, through institutions such as the Environmental Protection Agency and Drexel University.

Fall citywide cleanups starting at the beginning of this month. The Office of Clean and Green Initiatives is continuing the One Philly, United City Citywide Cleaning program this fall through January 30, 2026. The cleanups will take place in all neighborhoods across the city, and will coincide with the city’s Fall Leaf Recycling program. 

PA lawmakers lean away from greenhouse gas regulation. The Pennsylvania state Senate passed a bill to repeal the state’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. RGGI is a multi-state program that requires fossil fuel power plants to purchase allowances for each ton of carbon dioxide they produce. The bill is now in the House for consideration. 

Energy and gas shutoffs suspended for LIHEAP recipients during government shutdown. State Representative Jordan Harris secured commitments from PGW and PECO to suspend shutoffs for Low Income Energy Assistance Program recipients during the federal government shutdown. The federal LIHEAP program is without funds and is closed until December as the shutdown continues.
