City searches for new intercity bus station location. After years without a dedicated station for intercity buses, Philadelphia is now choosing between three locations for a permanent new bus terminal home. Philadelphia Parking Authority is partnering with the city to temporarily reopen the Filbert Street station in time for 2026’s influx of tourists. Port Richmond residents oppose PGW natural gas facility expansion. Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) presented plans to expand a liquified gas facility in Port Richmond during its 2027 budget presentation. Residents of the neighborhood – as well as local environmental advocates – spoke out against the proposal, concerned with pollution and a step in the wrong direction from the City’s carbon-neutral plan. KYW Newsradio

PPA launches school-zone speed cameras.  A program piloting speed cameras in school zones is now in effect across five designated areas. Philadelphia Parking Authority’s Executive Director, Rich Lazer, said, “Our emphasis is on saving lives and protecting children. We have seen dramatic results with similar technology along Roosevelt Boulevard, resulting in a 95% reduction in speeding and a 50% reduction in pedestrian-involved crashes.”

School District calls for proposals for school sustainability summit. The 2026 Summit for Sustainable Schools will take place in the spring at the School District of Philadelphia headquarters. SDP has announced the Call for Proposals along the theme of “Where Healthy Buildings Drive Savings and Resilience.” Proposals are accepted now through March 9, 2026.

Community members petition to keep environmental science high school open. Lankenau Environmental Science High School is one of several schools facing closure under the Philadelphia School District’s Facilities Master Plan. Lankenau is the only technical high school with an environmental focus in the district. A legal restriction in the property’s deed may stop the district from doing so. The Philadelphia Inquirer
