Meet the SustainPHL Nominees: Climate Hero

This nominee is combating climate change through communications, advocating, and influencing change.

In October, Philadelphia’s SustainPHL Awards will highlight and celebrate these community changemakers. Join us to honor them and announce the recipient at the SustainPHL Awards on October 20 at the Academy of Natural Sciences.

Caroline Burkholder, Temple University

Caroline is Temple University Senior Sustainability Manager and works with college students — teaching them about contemporary urban sustainability challenges and solutions and giving them resources and leadership development to support Temple and the City of Philadelphia’s climate commitment. More specifically, she has designed and now leads programs and education series about sustainable operations, behavior and culture change, and public and institutional climate policy and change-making. She has led Temple Thrift and our sustainable move-out program; our Walk Audit Certification and pedestrian, transit equity work; EJ, Good Neighbor, stewardship and asset-based community development training and workshops, and more.

Linnea Bond

Linnea Bond is a PSR PA, EQAT, solo performer that organizes within Vanguard Campaign, create theatre related to climate change, work for Physicians for Social Responsibility PA pushing back on fossil fuels and advocating for electrification. Linnea Bond organizes against climate change with Physicians for Social Responsibly PA, working on building electrification and uplifting stories of communities impacted by fossil fuels, and with Earth Quaker Action Team and the Yes Men on the Vanguard S.O.S. campaign, pushing the locally-based asset manager to meaningfully act on climate commitments.

Trash Academy

Trash Academy is a “collaboratory” between community members, artists, environmental activists, and young people from all across the city. Supported by Mural Arts’ Environmental Justice Department, Trash Academy inspires a wellspring of actions, believing that those who are most impacted by environmental challenges are the ones who must be at the forefront of crafting solutions. Rooted in the practice of collaboration and inclusivity, we develop, test, and share fun, interactive points of entry like games and teach-ins that posit a depth of knowledge and complicate the issue of trash.
