The awarded project was a part of the 2024 Community Voices Fund grant recipients, with $800,000 awarded to 33 organizations and projects.

Green Philly is thrilled to announce that our podcast, Gritty and Green, has been awarded a $27,500 grant from the Independence Public Media Foundation’s (IPMF) 2024 Community Voices Fund. This funding will support the creation of our Green & Gritty: We Are Seeds Mini-Series, an exploration of the history, resilience, and challenges facing community gardens throughout Philadelphia.

The series will be produced by Master Gardener and media creator Meredith Nutting, who produced the first season of the Gritty and Green podcast. While her previous episodes focused on organizations supporting community gardens, this mini-series will shift the spotlight to the gardeners themselves. Through their voices, the series will tell powerful stories of resilience, culture, and community building in the face of systemic racism, capitalism, and colonialism.

As a locally-focused media organization, this grant affirms the importance of elevating local voices in sustainability and equity-focused media. We proudly join a cohort of impactful organizations dedicated to community-driven narratives and transformational change.
