Green Philly Weekly Link Roundup

green hearts for our valentine's day week green link roundupHope ya’ll had a great, sustainable Valentine’s day week!  Here’s the green news in Philly & around we just couldn’t fit in this week:

McDonald’s Giving Pigs More Room – Nope, we’re not talking about the customers.  The Golden Arch is stopping the no-room cages for pigs in favor of more room.  Although the exact alternative isn’t provided, combined with Chipotle’s ex-factory farm ad, fast food’s trying to make baby steps in the right direction. We won’t be running out for a Big Mac anytime soon,  but hope for continuous progress…

Thrillist introduced us to Reclaiming Cleveland, an e-furniture shop that makes your furniture from condemned churches, home & stores from… you guessed it, Cleveland.

Free Trees from Mayor Nutter!  Well, technically Philadelphia Parks & Recreation & TreePhilly are giving them to us, but we’re psyched regardless!  Baby bonsai’s getting a baby brother!

Rittenhouse BYOB Russet opened this week, which is sourced completely within a 100-mile radius of the restaurant.  Even the decor is green (using zero VOC paints & furniture is made from reclaimed materials)!  Although we’re not turning carnivorous anytime soon, kudos to Andrew & Kristin Wood whom are using each part of the sacrificed animals (which reminds me of that Portlandia clip…)

…Speaking of which, Grubstreet told us Nomad Pizza also opened. It’s fare is almost 100% organic and majority of ingredients are sourced locally. Love this trend of locally sourced foods!

Bonus: Nowhere new, but the Whole Foods Parking Lot pretty much looks like my Tuesday night… minus driving, but definitely the “pay the $80 for the 6 things and get the heck out.”
