A new grant is available for projects that will restore and conserve a precious natural resource: the Delaware River Watershed.

The $4.3 million grant is aptly named the Delaware Watershed Conservation Fund (DWCF) and is administered by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF).

Those qualified for funding include:

• Nonprofit organizations
• Federal, state, interstate and local governments
• Indian tribes
• Educational institutions

Eligible projects will be related to water quality improvement, habitat restoration, flood mitigation, and more.

It’s a worthy cause. The Delaware River Watershed supports essential economic activity and is home to more than 200 species of fish, oysters and crab, and includes forests and wetlands. It performs many ecosystem services that are essential to the health of the wildlife there, including water filtration and carbon sequestration. Not to mention, it provides Philly with drinking water.
