Philadelphia’s two private composting services are now combined into one.

Circle Compost and Bennett Compost have announced that the two Philadelphia-based composting services will merge in 2026. Citing rising operational costs and ongoing barriers to securing a permitted composting site of its own, Circle is rolling its customer base and operations into Bennett.

Beginning January 1st, Circle Compost customers will transition to Bennett’s customer portal and branding.

The two composting companies were previously the only options for private compost pickup in Philadelphia. Circle was founded in 2016 by Dave and Michele Boovman, growing to over 2500 customers and 55 commercial. After getting to know and partnering with owners Tim Bennett and Jen Mastalerz, Circle began discussions with Bennett about the merger over the past few months. Dave Bloovman will join the Bennett Compost team as the Director of Finance and Commercial Sales.

Under the merger, all Circle Compost employees will retain their jobs, compensation, and benefits, while gaining access to expanded growth opportunities within Bennett Compost’s larger organization. Operationally, the combined company plans to streamline service routes, reducing duplicate truck and bike traffic on city streets, an efficiency the companies say aligns with their environmental values.
