Filbert Street bus terminal to reopen in May. On Tuesday, Mayor Cherelle Parker signed a bill to reopen the intercity bus terminal on Filbert Street in time for the anticipated influx of tourists during the upcoming FIFA World Cup and semiquincentennial festivities. The Philadelphia Parking Authority will renovate and operate the building with revenue generated from fees charged to intercity bus companies. PPA has agreed to operate the terminal for 10 years. Montco launches Sustainability Committee. Montgomery County is launching a Sustainability Committee to advise the county’s new Department of Sustainability. The department is seeking “experts from academia, nonprofits, and the public and private sectors who are committed to advancing sustainability in Montgomery County,” according to the application site. Applications close on Friday, January 16. 

Avenue of the Arts gets a redesign. Construction on the redesign of the Avenue of the Arts is beginning in January and is expected to take place over the next ten years. The first phase kicks off on January 30th in front of the Kimmel Center and includes a new raised median with trees, greenery, and public art. More information on the project can be found here. Friends of the Wissihickon host annual Public Projects Meeting. On January 28, the Friends of the Wissihickon’s new Executive Director Sara Stevenson will host their annual Public Projects Meeting to provide updates on the park’s ongoing projects. Topics will include pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements, volunteer achievements in 2025, and the new Philadelphia Trail Master Plan. Register to attend here. 

Secondhand store offers free winterwear. While many coat drives have ended after the holiday season, The Wardrobe will continue to offer winter clothing for free during the month of January. Open Wardrobe will take place on January 28 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at five locations. Follow this link to register.
