Depressing Statistic of the Day

(Nope, i’m not referring to the “rapture ” tomorrow…)

Driving to Work.. Working to Drive… Driving to Work… Working to Drive…

Which is it?

According to James Schwartz (courtesy of the Grist), Americans spend 2 hours every day working to pay off their car.

A quick calculation of car-related costs (car payment, gas, insurance + conservative estimate of maintenance) puts my car costs MINIMAL 16% of my salary for year #4 of ownership.

Year 1 of my bike = >1% of my salary.

This doesn’t even address the carbon emissions comparison.

Math seems pretty simple…for those of you who biked to work today!
