Walking the Schuylkill – John Brady Photography

Event Series (See All)

September 19, 2026 @ 10:00 am January 8, 2027 @ 5:00 pm

William Penn placed the City of Philadelphia where it is because of the Schuylkill River, serving the City first with a canal system, and later with railroads and highways in the river’s flood plain. The Industrial Revolution radically changed the Schuylkill with factories and mills built along its length. The environmental movement changed the River as radically as the industrial age had. These changes, and contemporary uses, leave imprints. “Walking the Schuylkill” intends to capture and highlight those marks, illustrating the character of the modern Schuylkill River. John Brady had a long career in maritime museums and ship preservation, working with the South Street Seaport Museum, the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild, and leading the Independence Seaport Museum. Since leaving the museum world, he has focused on photography and video, primarily featuring the waterways around Philadelphia.
