Hear the “Pastoral” Symphony through the ears of Beethoven’s “frenemy” Johann Nepomuk Hummel, who colorfully arranged the work for an intimate chamber ensemble of flute, violin, cello, and piano. One of the greatest piano virtuosos of his time, Hummel’s own compositional voice is heard in a sparkling piano trio that reveals the influence of his former teacher Mozart. Rounding out the program is a lively flute-violin duet by Bartolomeo Campagnoli and a trio for flute, viola, and double bass by Johann Matthias Sperger. Join Night Music and its special guests, pianist Yiheng Yang and cellist Caroline Nicolas, for an evening of spring-inspired music.
