#Tweetcert Review: Beatles ‘Abbey Road” at the Mann Center

Looking for some relaxing summer entertainment? Head over the the Mann! Last Thursday, I enjoyed a very lovely, eco-friendly evening at the Mann Music Center for some Beatles during the Philly Orchestra's rendition of "Down the Abbey Road", part of the Orchestra Summer Series. During the show, concertgoers (including Green Philly Blog) tweeted show updates and interesting Beatles facts with the hashtag #tweetcert (like the Mann's pictured to the right). Besides the fact I was waiting for Joan Osborne to change her tune and do a little portion of "One of Us", I was highly entertained for the evening! The Orchestra started off

Phillies are Becoming Greener, Host eCycle Event Saturday 6/25

As you loyal Green Philly Blog readers may know, Beth & I are avid Phillies fans. (Case in point: see insert below as we celebrated World Series Victory in '08.) While the Phillies are lovable for so many reasons (my fav Chooch?!?), their green ambitions are certainly noteworthy between their Red Goes Green campaign, Pitcher Ryan Madson (ahh) greening his home and awards for being most veggie-friendly by PETA. Not to be done by the Linc's ambition to be the Greenest Stadium in the World, the Phils have stepped up their eco-game yet again.

Coolest Etsy Find. Ever.

I was scrolling my fav site, Etsy, for gifts (for myself... err others) and found this necklace.. a Wearable Planter Necklace! This jewelry from Holland is totally sweet, and I love plants... but I must ask... how can you keep a plant alive in a small little necklace? Do you have to hang your necklace outside, making sure to 'water your jewelry' after watering your garden? At least you're adding some more plants to wherever you travel. Anyway, this is too awesome not to share. Posted by Julie

Bike Lanes Open on 13th!

Woohoo! As we mentioned, the North-South Bike lanes are going in on 10th & 13th Streets in Philly from South to Market. Then, a bill was floating around City Council that they'd had to approve bike lanes - which would likely delay more lanes being put in. Good news! The Philadelphia Bicycle Coalition reported the Bike Lanes have been painted on 13th!! Check out the

Philly’s 8th Greenest – What?

Mayor Nutter wants Philly to be #1 at something besides cheesesteaks... his Greenworks plan goal is for Philly to be the Greenest in the USA. The Grist just put out a 10 most climate-ready cities ranking and called Philly #8... tied with #7's New York. (sidenote... how is it 8th if it's tied?) How do you feel about that, Philly? Think our green actions deserve #7/8? Or are you hesitant? Sound off the comments.

How to Dine A Little Greener

In the summertime I get the urge to eat out more. The longer days and opportunity for al fresco dining (one of my favorite little pleasures in life) just make restaurants that much more enjoyable for me. I frequent establishments that boast the use of organic and local ingredients, along with lots of vegan and vegetarian hot spots. But, I also head to restaurants that aren't necessarily well known for any of these things. While dining I’m often on the lookout for how restaurants measure up in the eco-friendly department. Here are some practices that help keep businesses in the food industry greener. Don’t be shy - suggest some of these next time you’re at one of your favorite spots. Green restaurant practices:
