I'd like to give a special shout-out today to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society! PhillyCarShare announced that it's being purchased by Enterprise Holdings (aka the world's largest car rental company). They had been in financial trouble - aka

As we continue Shark Week, shark preservation highlights another problem we're facing in the ocean: Overfishing. 70% of the world's fisheries are fully or overly exploited, depleted or in a state of collapse. That's a scary statistic since previously 'common' fish like Bluefin tuna & Atlantic salmon are severely overfished and (learn more, after the jump!)

Personally, I started off watching the highly-anticipated predatory series Sunday evening with some fine (organic boxed) wine, delicious cheese and a good friend. Although the media portrays sharks as a threat, there's only an average of 5-10 human fatalities per year due to shark attacks... You're more likely to be killed hornets, wasps, bees or dogs. Yet an estimated 73 million sharks are killed yearly - from habitat loss, pollution, overfishing, and most of all, shark finning. (For more on shark conservation and what YOU can do, click through!)
