2-Wheeled News: Philly Bike Expo & Commuters Increase AGAIN
It’s an exciting week for pedaling!
The 2012 Philly Bike Expo is this weekend (October 27-28) at the 23rd Street Armory (22 S. 23rd St). A range of organized rides, book signings, contests, fashion show, raffle and more will appeal to bikers both experienced and new. The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (aka the “Bike Coalition”) will have a table to renew your membership, get a t-shirt or map or just hang out. (Plus, they’re super-friendly so you should say hi.) Take advantage of the FREE bike valet & get your butt over this weekend to check out the beer garden and more! (Tickets range from $8 – $20 or $25 at door for an All Access Pass.) Plus, if you check out the expo, you can probably skip Biking for Dummies.
Philly’s already claimed the #1 bike commuting city title, but commuters continue to pop up in Center City. A new study by the Center City District states that bikers have increased 10.5% over the past 2 years (up to an average of 873 during rush hour of 8-9 AM). The 13th Street bike lane increase riders 67% on that road alone. Good work to the men bikers (68% of the riders), which only means us females (32%) need to step it up in our business suits & dressy attire.
In other pedaling news, props to the Bike Coalition for getting a walkway ramp on the Ben Franklin Bridge.
Readers, will you be swinging by the Philly Bike Expo this weekend?
