Bikes GALORE: Bike Shares, Naked Bikes, Full Moon Bikes!

full moon bike ride phillyOK, bike fever has hit this week. Like, every time I turn around there’s a new event or awesome thing happening.

If you’re a biker, you should LOVE Philly right now. And if you’re not, buy a damn bike immediately.

Philadelphia Bike Share

HUGE news: Philadelphia Bike Share has an official city website! Which means we’re getting psyched for the bike share to start in the city. The site calls for bike sharing to start in Autumn 2014 (you fancy, Philly copywriters over “fall!”) with 150-200 bikes and 1000-2000 bikes. This is the info we found out at the Philly Bike Share Forum back in May.

How are they getting the dough when our schools can barely get funding? According to City Paper, private sponsorships, in addition to state and federal grants, are expected to cover the $10 million to $15 million capital cost.

Naked Bike Ride

The Naked Bike Ride is this Sunday, August 25th – most likely in the afternoon. The ride is to promote conscious fuel consumption, positive body image and cycling advocacy.

We witnessed the NBR a few years ago by accident and love the message. Support the riders but please be respectful! (How would you feel nakey on a bike?!?)

Full Moon Bike Ride!

The full moon bike ride was on Tuesday, which I participated in for the second time around. Groups across the US meet during the full moon, howl and join forces.

Philly’s chapter began earlier this year. Around 40 riders met at 10 PM on the Art Museum steps to do an after-hours tour of the city. Everyone is so friendly and respectful of the roads and promote a positive biking image to the city.

Molly Finch, formerly of TTF was co-organizer along with Alex LaBant. Molly is unfortunately moving on to Maryland (we’ll miss you!)  but we’re sure Alex will carry on the group.
