Kenney Signs Mayors for 100% Clean Energy; DGAF about Paris Pullout
After mixed feelings about Trump announcing the US will pull out of the Paris Climate Accord, Philly took a cue from Rocky to fight back.
On Wednesday, Jim Kenney and the Office of Sustainability announced new steps for Philly in the climate change resistance.
Mayor Kenney signed the Sierra Club’s effort “Mayors for 100% Clean Energy,” joining 99 other mayors in vowing to support 100% clean and renewable energy.
Also, remember that climate data erased on the EPA’s website in April? Philadelphia is hosting this information online, and making it open source so other cities can copy it easily. Extra fun fact: the sassy URL Phila picked is /climatechangeisreal.
“Since the White House has opted to step away from its obligations to this issue, all cities – including Philadelphia – must step up. The hotter, wetter, more extreme weather brought by climate change disproportionately harms our city’s most vulnerable residents. Transitioning to a just energy system that is clean and affordable for all will slow these changes and make Philadelphia a better place for current residents and future generations.” – Mayor Jim Kenney
