Greening your Snow Storms – Snow Removal
Good news! Green Philly Blog gave advice in Philly’s Metro yesterday to ‘green your snow cleanup.”
Here’s a quick recap of how to deal with ice and snow when mother nature pounds again and again, as it has this winter:
- Shovel early & often – right after the snow falls. It’s the easiest way to minimize the ice.
- Can’t physically shovel? Choose a lesser-impact electric snowblower over a gas-powered model.
- Scatter coffee grinds, sand or birdseed and wear boots with treads to gain traction and minimize slipping.
- Use rock salt sparingly – apprx. 1 handful per square yard is sufficient.
- Sweep up any excess salt as soon as the ice melts so it doesn’t wind up on pets’ paws or running off into the gutter.
