Photo Fun Friday & Earth Day Philadelphia Recap: Trash, Porn & More!
From a Trashion Show to Mural Arts on Trash Trucks, Philly had quite an array of celebrations yesterday for the 40th celebration of Earth Day! Here’s some photos, links & a video for your re-cap pleasure:
Philadelphia Streets Department debuted 10 Mural recycling trucks like this one, with lots of abstract Philly scenery:
This truck definitely looks like Spring & will hopefully motivate citizens to get Philly clean:
This truck reminds me of Fall:
Mayor Nutter addressed citizens and the press, encouraging a continued support of the “UnLitter Us” initiative:
Who’s the Boss? Actor Tony Danza vocalized his support to our administration’s “clean and safe” Philadelphia:
I was quite impressed by the “Trashion” Show by the talented students from Moore College of Art & Design. Made from materials including plastic bags, poker chips, tape, gift wrapping tissue, Velcro, and porn mags, these fashion pieces definitely made me think twice about everything in my apartment (that typically ends up in the recycle bin). Here’s a selection from the 20 pieces shown:
Designed by Melissa Marx, this dress is made from Fabric, newspaper, water bottle caps, duct tape, feathers & modeled by Kristen Marx. The second, ‘lustful’ dress is made from Porn magazines, duct tape, plastic bags, wire, masking tape, yarn cardboard designed by Marketa Budkova & modeled by Aera Large.
Here’s a “Samurai Suit” – made of cardboard and wine corks designed by Criztie Kaufmann & modeled by Paul Kauffman. The 2nd photo is a dress made from Toilet paper rolls, newspaper, rope, aluminum foil designed by Maria Alejandro Castro & modeled by Rebecca Marquez:
Other interesting Earth Day events:
- Phillies Ball Girls & Office Staff cleaned up at Meadow Lake
- Baseball teams everywhere helped the Earth out!
- CNN tells us why we NEED to tell senators & lawmakers that we need Green legislation ASAP
- Oprah had an Earth Day special about the Cove’s Dolphins efforts & Plastiki, a Plastic Sailing Boat raising Ocean pollution awareness
- This new tool Sency will help us see everything being said in Philly (about Earth Day) right now
And courtesy of Treehugger, someone made a hilarious (but absurd) remake of that terrible hip hop (is that the category?) ‘Birthday Sex” jam and turned it into some Earth Day Lovin’:
