Green Gift Searching? Visit Camphill Village Kimberton Hills Craft Shop

orchardWith only a week of Christmas shopping left, there’s still time to find a perfect environmentally-friendly gift!  

Camphill Village Kimberton Hills’ craft shop features hand made woven and felted items made from recycled fabrics, wood products, pottery, silk scarves with natural plant-derived dyes, and more.  One of their signature items is a rug made from recycled denim, perfect for any abode – durable, beautiful and environmentally friendly.  Plus, all items are made locally at this agricultural and handcrafting community by adults with developmental disabilities. 

Located in Chester County, they encourage individuals (especially adults with special needs) to discover and develop their potential in a physically, socially and spiritually therapeutic environment.  As we know it takes a village,  and at Camphill Village each community member leads a fulfilling life full of work, recreation and celebration- knowing the village is successful because of every person’s contributions. textile

Additionally, Kimberton Hills is a model of ecological living. The village brings visitors in contact with ways to create a cleaner environment through the use of effective design, practices, and technology.  Last year, they won the People’s Choice Award for the 2008 Philadelphia Sustainability Awards

Hungry?  From Tuesday-Saturday from 11 AM – 2 PM, they feature homemade lunches featuring organic & biodynamic ingredients at the cafe – choices include soups, sandwiches, entrees (often vegetarian), and delicious desserts.  Local businesses and growers are supported such as Kimberton Coffee Roasters, Sweetwater Bakery and Sankanac CSA.  Recent cafe renovations include sustainable building practices, including geothermal heating & cooling.
