Natural Lands & Riverfront Alliance of Delco partner to get GSI on Waterfront

The goal is to bring natural solutions to the Chester Waterfront Trail

The Chester Waterfront Master Plan has been in progress since 2019, but a new partnership may bring more natural solutions.

Natural Lands is partnering with the Riverfront Alliance of Delaware County to enhance the existing plan. The goal of the Master Plan is to direct the redevelopment of Chester, connect it to the riverfront and establish Chester as a regional destination to stay and live for residents, businesses, and visitors. Natural Lands will be designing green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) and other streetscape improvements to incorporate plantings integrated into the waterfront’s natural environment.

Future ambitions of the partnership include working together on landscape and green stormwater infrastructure design for the Chester Waterfront Trail on West Second Street (Route 291) from Highland Avenue to Norris Street.

“In addition to the structural work, our broader goal is to listen to and engage with the community to understand how residents can better connect with nature in recreational, educational and health-oriented ways,” said Oliver Bass, president of Natural Lands.

The Engle Street Project included stormwater management.
