How to Eat Local this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is all about two things:

1. Giving thanks, being grateful , reflecting on all we have.

2. The food!

Let’s focus on the latter for a moment, and talk about how we can celebrate this Thanksgiving’s feast in truly green fashion.  Here’s 4 simple ways:

– Start your day off right by shopping at local bakeries for homemade sticky buns, muffins and bagels.  A few tasty choices in Philly include Brown Betty and Sweet Freedom (gluten-free and vegan.)

– Utilize farmer’s markets! Philadelphians can head to Reading Terminal Market for an abundance of produce, bread, meats and more. ( Trust me you’ll feel even prouder about showing off your culinary prowess to family when you can brag that you used local ingredients.)

– Head to local pumpkin patches or apple orchards for your pies, tarts and pumpkin rolls. Yum.

– Finally, if you’re going for a traditional Thanksgiving Turkey, (Make sure to get one from a local farmer) check out these 5 eco-friendly ways to prepare it from greenopolis.
