SUMMARY:3C @ 3B: Climate\, community & conversations
DESCRIPTION:Talk sustainability research and climate advocacy opportunities over sustainable brews. Address issues you care about together in community.\n\n\n\nTripleC @ TripleB: Promoting equity in urban forestry by addressing barriers to participation\nWe will hear from Temple Professor of Geography\, Environment\, and Urban Studies\, Dr. Hamil Pearsall\, Ph.D.\, who will speak about her research on advancing equitable urban forestry. After discussing Hamil’s research in this area\, we will be joined by Asha-Lé Davis\, the Education and Outreach Manager for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS)\, who will speak about the work that PHS is leading to implement solutions and reduce barriers to urban forestry here in Philadelphia.\nAbout Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS)\nPHS\, an internationally recognized nonprofit organization founded in 1827\, uses horticulture to advance the health and well-being of the Greater Philadelphia Region. PHS programs create healthier living environments\, increase access to fresh food\, expand access to jobs and economic opportunity\, and strengthen deeper social connections between people. PHS’s work spans 250 neighborhoods; an expansive network of public gardens and landscapes; year-round learning experiences; and the nation’s signature gardening event\, the Philadelphia Flower Show. PHS provides everyone with opportunities to garden for the greater good as a participant\, member\, donor\, or volunteer. SUMMARY:Triple C @ Triple Bottom: Climate Communication\, Public Perception\, and Misinformation
DESCRIPTION:3C @ 3B: Climate\, community & conversations\nSeptember series: Climate Communication\, Public Perception\, and Misinformation\nCommunication is at the forefront of tackling climate change\, developing effective adaptation and mitigation strategies\, and driving societal change. How can we effectively communicate on such a complex problem? How can we develop trust in scientists and scientific results while combating the spread of misinformation?\n\nTo kick off the Fall TripleC @ TripleB series\, we will hear from Temple University Assistant Professor of Advertising and Public Relations\, Dr. Meghnaa Tallapragada\, and FactCheck.org staff writer\, Kate Yandell\, as they discuss their work and experience in climate communication\, public perception\, and misinformation. Both speakers will deliver short informal lectures followed by an audience Q & A on this important and timely topic.\n\nAbout Triple C at Triple B\n\nA public lecture series hosted by Triple Bottom Brewing\, focused on local climate and sustainability research and advocacy opportunities in Philadelphia.\n\nClimate\, community & conversations is a space for education\, engagement\, and community building around climate and sustainability challenges. Everyone is welcome to join this conversation\, learn about the latest in research and help bring the value of this learning and problem solving out into the community.\n\nThis is not your typical lecture – we will talk with one another over sustainable brews and share in fellowship as we work to address the issues you care about.\n\nAbout Meghnaa\n\nMeghnaa Tallapragada\, Ph.D\, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication. She is passionate about combining her background as an engineer (B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering\, CBIT\, India) with her training as a strategic science communication scholar (Ph.D. in Communication\, Cornell University; postdoctoral fellow\, Annenberg Public Policy Center\, University of Pennsylvania) to explore how we can build healthier relationships between the public and STEM (science\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics). Her research has been supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)\, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)\, and other organizations\, and her work has been published in journals such as Environmental Communication\, Health Communication\, Risk Analysis\, Science Communication\, and Public Understanding of Science.\n\nAbout Kate\n\nKate Yandell is a staff writer for FactCheck.org\, a nonprofit\, nonpartisan website that monitors the accuracy of statements from major U.S. political figures and popular social media posts. Kate is a member of the SciCheck team\, which focuses on false and misleading claims about science. FactCheck.org is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. Kate has been a science journalist since 2012 and holds an M.A. in journalism from New York University’s Science\, Health\, and Environmental Reporting program. She received her undergraduate degree in English and biology from Williams College.\n\nAbout Triple Bottom Brewing\n\nTriple Bottom Brewing’s mission is to create moments of joy and connection that inspire and empower us all to craft a better future for our planet and for one another.\n\nThey are a fair chance business\, and intentionally seek to hire people and work together with their nonprofit partners. Triple Bottom is also committed to decreasing their consumption and negative environmental impact whenever possible.
