DESCRIPTION:As part of DesignPhiladelphia\, Carpenters’ Hall will host the opening reception for a temporary exhibit on Friday\, October 3\, 5–7 p.m. The exhibit features panels highlighting current historic preservation projects across Greater Philadelphia that place accessibility at the center of their design. Light refreshments will be served.\n\nThe panels will remain on view at Carpenters’ Hall\, free of charge\, on Saturday\, October 4\, and Sunday\, October 5\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Projects represented are at various stages of development and demonstrate how accessibility can extend beyond ADA compliance—embracing universal\, human-centered design while respecting historic preservation and interpretive standards.\n\nThis program is presented in conjunction with the Carpenters’ Company of the City and County of Philadelphia’s 2025 Master Builders’ Dialogues\, “Towards a More Perfect Union: Accessibility and Preservation\,” taking place at Arch Street Meeting House on Thursday\, October 23\, 2025.

DESCRIPTION:On National Oyster Day\, Carpenters’ Hall and Fishtown Seafood will host the inaugural “Shells of Liberty Oyster Bash” in Philadelphia’s Historic District.\n\nThis new two-part event throws it back to the Revolutionary era when oysters were the snack of choice for the Founding Fathers. In the 1700s\, these briny bites were the original fast food\, with shells paving city streets. By the 1800s\, Philly boasted 379 oyster houses and devoured 300 million oysters a year.\n\nShuck the Crown and Shellebrate:\n\n3–5 p.m.: Family Fun\, Fresh Oysters\, and Free Tours\nDive into games\, crafts\, and hands-on history outside in Carpenters’ Court\, learn about oysters with the Independence Seaport Museum\, Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (which will be recycling oyster shells all day!)\, and Bayshore Center\, slurp up freshly shucked local oysters (available for purchase)\, and enjoy free tours of Carpenters’ Hall—walk-ins welcome!\n\n5:30–7:30 p.m.: 21+ Bash Inside the Hall\nSip\, savor\, and mingle with drinks from Triple Bottom Brewing\, sample a dozen local oysters\, handpicked by Fishtown Seafood’s Bryan Szeliga (oyster supplier to top Philly restaurants)\, explore the Hall and catch pop-up talks connecting oysters\, the Revolution\, and the Founders\, featuring professor of American history and urban studies\, Dr. Stephen Nepa. Proceeds benefit Partnership for the Delaware Estuary.
