What is Socially Conscious Media? Our New Column Debuts

(Because who isn’t as excited as these two?)

Throughout talking with blog readers over the past few years, I’ve been fascinated with who reads our blog. The young professional who moved to Philly and wants to become more involved in sustainability. The college student who wants a career in environmental consulting. Or the lifelong Philadelphia resident who has NO idea where to recycle their TV (since it’s now illegal to ditch curbside.)

Our city is full of entrepreneurs shifting the way we do business. Innovators like Forsei Consulting help businesses maximize their environmental impact. The GREEN Program challenges students to discover what global leaders are doing to shift to a  sustainable future. MilkCrate Philly is helping locate a rolodex of sustainable businesses straight from your smartphone.

Yet a huge portion of our audience is small business owners and professionals who struggleEXPAND. They have products and services that make our city better, without creating averse effects on our environment.

Over the past few years, a few of these small businesses have asked for our help to reach their ideal audience. Over Philadelphia’s sustainability movement, the city has shifted to supporting local businesses. Yet how can you reach these consumers without compromising time and resources?

What is Socially Conscious Media?

Our new column, Socially Conscious Media, will provide commentary and constructive critiques that will help businesses convey socially conscious messages to consumers through social media & content. We’ll show what local companies (and national innovators) are doing to reach sustainable consumers, from how to create a new Instagram campaign to crafting a Facebook ad without losing fans.

This column is an addition, and won’t overtake all of our content. You’ll still get your same event, recycling and sustainable news as always. You’ll find out where to recycle more odds and ends on Where Can I Wednesday, hear about sustainable travel and become more sustainable this new year.

And what’s even better news? Green Philly is happy to announce that we’re extending our services to businesses who need help in Social Media and digital marketing and taking on new clients in 2015.
