Donate Your Used Jeans & Help a Local School: WCI Weds

You know those jeans you no longer wear, but keep just in case? You can donate them to homeless teens around the world, as we explore in today’s Where Can I Wednesday column..

The students at Esperanza Academy Charter School are hosting a jean drive through Do Something.org. Plus, the participating schools are entered to win a scholarship – so you may just help a local school get a few more dollars, too!

The students are passionate about this effort. I found out about this drive from Gladys Montanez, who said:

This means the world to me. Let me make a difference in this community. I know we can do this!

Her teacher reflected on the student’s enthusiasm. As Esperanza Academy teacher Eden Strunk said about the school drive:

This has really showed the spirit of giving at our school. Most students at our school come from low income families. They understand the struggle, and how hard it can be when you can’t get the basics. I am very proud of them.

The school’s student council are organizing the collection, and they’ve collected 400-500 pairs of jeans by far.

How to donate jeans

It’s easy to donate. Just drop off your jeans to Aeropostale and mention that you’re dropping off on behalf of Esperanza Academy (301 West Hunting Park Avenue) by February 15th.

Local Aeropostale locations include:

  • Franklin Mills Mall: 1434 Franklin Mills Circle, Philadelphia, PA 19154
