Don’t Trash Those Pumpkins – Where to Compost ’em

An estimated 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins are trashed each year instead of being eaten or composted.

That’s REAL spooky news.

The bottom line: After you’ve carved those pumpkins, don’t trash them!

How to Make the Most out of Your Pumpkins

  • Roast the seeds and eat them as snacks
  • Use the pulp to make pumpkin bread, pies, rolls or anything else your heart desires.
  • Make literally any food option possible. This is 2019 with PSL season, get creative!

How to Dispose of your Pumpkin Responsibly

If you subscribe to a composting service, cut up and throw the pumpkins in your bin as normal.

If you are NOT a customer, you can order a compost pickup from Circle Compost for $4/pumpkin. (OR you could start a free trial then customer…)

Compost your pumpkins for Free on Penn’s campus: Penn offers a free compost option on campus. Drop off your spooky pumpkins on Monday, November 4th from 3-5 PM at Penn Garden between Harrison College House and Spruce Street OR Woodland Walk between Lauder College HOuse & Hill College House.
