Christmas Tree Recycling Program 2012

Now that you’ve hauled out the holly and looted the gifts from Santa, it’s time to figure out how you’re handling those dead Christmas Trees – in an environmentally friendly fashion, of course.

The Streets Department has announced the 2012 Christmas Tree Recycling Program is running Tuesday, January 3 (aka today) – Saturday, January 14th.  There is NO curbside collection, so here’s the Sanitation Convenience Centers where to take your trees:

  • 3033 S. 63rd St
  • Domino Lane & Umbria Street
  • State Road & Ashburner Street

Make sure trees are free of decorations, untied, and not in plastic bags.  Need more info? Check the Streets Department website.

Are none of those locations convenient? Other options include:

  • Sustainable 19125 has a Treecycling event (to turn your trees into mulch for a local dog park, benefiting man’s best friend! Plus, bring household electronics to be safely e-cycled.  Saturday, Jan 7th, 9am – 12pm to Palmer Dog Depot, E. Palmer St. & Blair St. in Fishtown
  • Northern Liberties Liberty Lands Park (3rd & Poplar) is also sponsoring a Tree-Cycling event from 10 AM – 4 PM on Satudray, January 7th. Please remove decorations & bring a $5 spot for a donation. Your trees will become wood chips. (Send questions to trash@nlna.org.)
