2011 Philadelphia Christmas Tree Recycling Program

Now that (most) Christmas festivities are over, it’s time to start thinking about disposing of that tree.

Lucky for you, once you’re done with the Christmas spirit (and needles falling), the Philadelphia Streets Department 2011 Christmas Tree Recycling Program runs Monday, January 3 through Saturday, January 15.

This annual (22 yr old!) program is an environmentally safe alternative for the disposal of used trees.  You can drop off your Christmas tree to the Streets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers at 3033 S. 63rd Street (Domino Lane and Umbria Street) and State Road and Ashburner Street, Monday-Saturday from 8 AM – 6 PM.  There will be NO curbside collection for recycling this year, so any trees left on the curb will be trashed.

Please follow these simple rules:

  • Trees to be recycled should be free of all decorations and untied. Christmas trees with decorations cannot be recycled and will be trashed (thus defeating the purpose of recycling)…
  • Trees should not be brought to the site in plastic bags.

By recycling the trees, you’ll help reduce the number of discarded trees that end up in landfills.

Have additional questions?  Call the Streets Department Customer Affairs at 215-686-5560 or visit their website.
