Public Transportation is Your Friend

Snow storms have hit harder than the norm this year – and it’s not even February.  Naturally, this has folks grumbling about the annoyance of digging their cars out. Further, driving can be tricky – and at times dangerous.

What can you do to get around Philly easier during these sometimes treacherous months? This winter consider upping your use of public transportation. Staying out of the driver’s seat will give you peace of mind. Plus, you’re saving emissions and gas money. (Don’t worry – even Julie survived her Low Car Diet run.)

Here’s a refresh of the public transportation options available to Philadelphia residents:

– Septa Subway : It’s just two dollars to ride, and it takes a lot for Septa to suspend service. Check out this list of stations. Vist Septa’s site or call 215- 580-7800 for more info on schedules and routes.

-Septa Bus: Septa has 121 bus routes in the Philadelphia area. 10 token are just $14.50, or you can pay $2.00 a ride. This is a great option when the roads aren’t too brutal and you’d rather not get behind the wheel. Check out info on SEPTA bus lines.

-PATCO: Another super-affordable train option. The distance you travel determines your fare. Here’s where to find stations.
