OK, I’ll admit it.
I’m slowly turning into the ‘green’, earth-loving stereotype. While I try to keep my lecturing & whines to a minimum, I keep getting greener and greener since the start of Green Philly Blog. I’m 99% pescatarian. Finally, I bought a bike. So, readers. Please bear with me for a second, while I celebrate.
There’s a big announcement for people like me: Philly’s going to add more bike lanes.
WOOO-Hooo! 🙂
2 North-south bike lanes a block apart are going to run from Spring Garden to South Street, just like the East-West versions on Spruce & Pine. These lanes are definitely a blessing for people like me, especially when you’re terrified of 2 tons of car passing as you trek across the city.
Rita Cutler, deputy mayor for transportation, declined to announce which streets they are – that won’t be revealed to the public until late April.
But, “The new routes might have blocks that share the road with cars”, said Cutler.
Interesting. Have you ever biked down main streets in Philly, when you go from some nice lanes to chaotic traffic patterns, with cars speeding by you?? For those who haven’t done that 2-wheeled cruise, it’s not fun. These ‘car-shared bike blocks’ are slightly tricky.
Regardless, thank you Philly, for continuing your emphasis on bike-friendly streets.
