Happy Earth Week, Philadelphia!

At Green Philly everyday is Earth Day but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t reflect and celebrate properly!

Here are just some of the Earth Day happenings to check out in Philly this week. :

  • TreePhilly Giveaway at Citiziens Bank Park:  This earth day the Phillies and PHS (Pennsylvania Horticulture Society) will give away 250 trees to fans who requested a tree on the Phillies site. Sunday April 22
  • Conservation Celebration at Elmwood Park: An expo of the latest eco-friendly products and services. Kids will love the moon bounce, scavenger hunt, and take-home seed planting activity. Saturday April 21, 10am – 5pm
  • Giant Virtual Garden in Center City: PHS teams up with NBCUniversal’s eco-initiative, “Green is Universal,” to present a city wall as a virtual garden that’s populated every time someone makes a small environmental pledge (i.e: to shut off lights when they leave a room or turn off running water.) Check out the details on the city’s first virtual garden. Friday, April 20, 7:30-11pm
  • Earth Day at the National Constitution Center: Free with museum admission, visitors have a variety of programs to choose from including an “it’s easy being green” quiz show, a discussion on how environmental issues will affect the 2012 election and a chance to calculate our founding father’s footprint. Sunday, Apr. 22 – Monday, Apr. 23
  • Earth Day Navy Yard Bike Tour: Hey, Philly bikers – come out for a tour of the Navy Yard’s green offerings including the sustainability workshop, LEED certified buildings  and The Greenway , a new recreational trail. Tuesday April 24,  3:30pm – 5pm Register here.
  • Climate Change: Its Impact…Our Action” at the Franklin Institute:  Learn and contribute to a discussion and debate on climate change. Sunday, April 22 7pm
  • 5K Run for Clean Air: Celebrate Earth Day with some exercise for a good cause. The Clean Air Council is an organization with the goal to decrease damaging air pollution.  The run will start at the Philadelphia Art Museum. Saturday, April 21 9:00am
