Guide to Philadelphia Pop-Up Beer Gardens 2018

The warm weather is finally gracing Philadelphia with its presence after (what seems like) a six-month winter.

Instead of going to your everyday local bar this summer, try something new and check out one of the various pop-up beer gardens that Philadelphia has to offer. These beer gardens are only around for few months during the summer season, so be sure to take advantage of them. You can make it your new summer goal to hit as many Philly beer gardens as possible!

Independence Beer Garden

Location: 100 S Independence Mall West

Independence Beer Garden is a 20,000 square foot beer garden with something to offer for everybody. With 40 different regional and domestic craft beers on tap, every beer connoisseur in the city can try and appreciate a new brew every time they visit. Not a beer drinker? No problem! Grab a cocktail from their full bar and challenge one of your friends to corn hole match instead. If you’re looking for more of a chill night, you can grab a drink and some food off of their all American menu and relax by the picnic tables or lounge chairs that overlook the Independence National Historic Park.

PHS Beer Gardens

Location: 15^th and South Street and Filbert St & N 36th Street

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society hosts two different pop-up beer gardens every summer that draws people in with their twinkling lights and endless greenery. They partner with local restaurants including Royal Tavern, Cantina Los Caballitos, and Khyber Pass Pub to provide garden goers some of the best food around! Wash down that delicious food with one of their signature cocktails inspired by “fragrant botanicals and herbaceous plants of the season” as described by PHS.

Uptown Beer Garden

Location: JFK Blvd between 17th and 18^th

Uptown Beer Garden is another excellent summer pop-up located in the heart of Center City. This year, the Uptown team wanted to make the customer experience even better than prior years by adding additional seating, sprucing up their cocktail menu, offering new and exclusive beers, and most importantly, more bars! There is now a total of eight bars at Uptown Beer Garden which will cut down wait time. Also, be sure to grab some mouth-watering bar food items while you are there. Two of BRU’s chefs will be there whipping up all of the favorites!

Spruce Street Harbor Park

Location: Columbus Blvd and Spruce Street

Spruce Street Harbor Park is the go-to spot for most locals on a warm summer night. This family-friendly park has games, a boardwalk that runs along the Delaware River, food trucks from local Philadelphia restaurants, and of course cold beer! The park is also adorned with colorful hammocks hung from the trees that are speckled with sparkling lights making the park feel like something out of a movie.

Parks On Tap

Location: All over the city

Parks on Tap is a little different than most beer gardens because this is a traveling beer garden! Parks on Tap visits different parks throughout Philadelphia and offers an outdoor oasis for locals. Hammocks and lounge chairs are set up around each park so customers can sit comfortably while enjoying their beer, wine, and/or fresh snacks. The best part about this traveling beer garden is that it partners with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Avram Hornik of FCM Hospitality, meaning a portion of all proceeds go directly back into the community.

 

Other Philly favorites include Morgan’s Pier, Bok Bar, and Sky Garden, which aren’t “exactly” pop-up beer gardens because they are actual establishments, but are outdoor bars that are only open during the summer season.
