Getting Involved: Black Lives Matter Resources

Green Philly stands behind the Black Lives Matter movement.

As a sustainability-focused organization serving a majority black city, we understand how imperative it is to stand in opposition to injustice as it pertains to both the environment and race. Fighting inequality and oppression is inherent to our mission here.

Although blatant injustice surrounding police brutality and black lives in the U.S is far from new to us, we must stay relentless in our response. Here are some ways you can join us virtually in supporting the movement.

Where to sign

Here are a few petitions you can add your name to demand action:

Justice for Breonna Taylor

The Action Network: Increase Our Communities! Defund the Philly Police Budget!

Demand Florida lawmakers to reveal the identity of the cop who killed trans Black man, Tony McDade

Call for the disbarment of prosecutor George E. Barnhill, who has known racial biases and personal ties to the police officers & department that killed Ahmaud Arbery

Here you can email Philadelphia councilmen to prevent a budget increase of $14 million to the police, which would require budget cuts to homelessness, public health dept., and parks and recreation, etc.

More petitions can be found here and here.
