Philly Bagged Leaf Drive 2013: WCI Weds?

Have leaves in your yard or 3′ of city sidewalk in front of your house? What can you do them? In this week’s Where Can I Wednesday, we’re filling you in on where to put those leaves.

The Philadelphia Street Department’s 2013 Philly Bagged Leaf drive runs for 6 weeks, beginning Mon, November 11th through Fri, December 20th. Leaves collected are used for composting in local parks, trees and gardens (and so you can do the right thing). You can put your leaves in (only) biodegradable bags curbside on trash day for collection.

Bagged Leaf Drive: 2013 Rules

  • ONLY use biodegradable paper bags – they’re processed with recycling and eliminates that awful plastic bag contamination. If you leave them in plastic bags or containers, it will go to the trash and not help the greater cause like you’re intending.
  • Set out those leaves on trash day.
  • Don’t put other crap (trash, recyclables) with the bagged leaves. It doesn’t work.
  • Max – 40 LBS per bag. You can use multiple bags.
  • You gotta get the bags yourself – no freebies from the Streets Dept.
  • OR take your bagged leaves to the following Sanitation Convenience Centers:

1. 3033 S. 63rd Street (63rd & Passyunk Ave.)
2. Domino Lane and Umbria Street
3. State Road and Ashburner Street
